During the recent elections, Narendra Modi become the second most liked politician on Facebook with 14,316,374 likes, only behind President Obama.
Modi also broke a Twitter record after his “India has won” tweet was retweeted over 56,000 times in 6 hours, knocking the previous record holder, Salman Khan (48,600 retweets), off the top spot.
The social media buzz surrounding the elections has been immense – 29 million people in India made 227 million interactions regarding the elections since they were announced. This accounts to two-thirds of all daily active Facebook users in India, and an average of 10 interactions per person.
Alongside these large statistics, 13 million people made 75 million interactions regarding Narendra Modi alone.
Another Indian politician has gained social media popularity too – Arvind Kejriwal also made the top 5 most liked politicians globally list, with 543,431 likes.
